The Limitations of Most Diagnostic Tests
The majority of diagnostic tests on the market provide only a final or estimated DSAT score. While these are simple to administer, they have two major shortcomings.
Inaccuracy in score estimates. Projected scores are often unreliable because the real DSAT score depends on how a student performs relative to the wider test-taking population, not just within a standalone simulation.
Flat, incomplete feedback. Most tests only show whether an answer is right or wrong. They do not identify:
The level of difficulty a student can reliably handle
The type of error that caused a mistake, whether it was a misunderstanding of the concept, a calculation slip, poor time management, or a missed procedural step
Because of this, tutors are often forced to reteach entire topics. The result is hours of review that may add little value, while money and valuable preparation time are spent repeating concepts the student already knows.
A Common Example: Algebra
Algebra is a recurring area on the DSAT. Mainstream diagnostic tests treat it as a single category. If a student misses a question, the assumption is that they lack understanding of algebra as a whole. In reality, many students are comfortable with Level 1 and Level 2 algebra questions but struggle only with the highest complexity questions at Level 3. A traditional test cannot distinguish this.
The result is inefficient preparation. A student may spend an hour reviewing algebra from the ground up when fifteen minutes of focused practice on Level 3 questions would have resolved the gap.
